What does 925 sterling silver mean?
925 sterling silver is an alloy of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals (typically copper). The copper gives the metal its strength — pure silver is too soft for everyday jewellery.
Every Auravox chain is hallmarked 925, meaning it has been independently verified to meet this standard.
Will the chain tarnish?
All sterling silver tarnishes over time — this is a natural reaction with sulphur compounds in the air. The rate depends on your skin chemistry, perfume, and storage conditions.
Regular wear actually slows tarnishing, as friction keeps the surface polished. Store your chain in an airtight pouch when not in use, and polish occasionally with a soft silver cloth.
Is the silver nickel-free?
Yes. Our alloy uses copper as the hardening metal, not nickel. This makes our chains suitable for people with nickel sensitivities.
How do I choose the right length?
A 40–45 cm chain sits at the collar bone — classic and versatile. A 50 cm chain falls just below the collarbone. 55–60 cm chains sit on the chest and work well with pendants or for layering.
Tip: use a piece of string or tape measure held around your neck to get a feel for each length before ordering.
How do I choose the right width?
0.8–1 mm chains are ultra-fine and delicate — ideal for layering or wearing alone for a minimal look. 1.5–2 mm is the everyday sweet spot: visible but not heavy. 2.5–4 mm makes a statement and holds a pendant well. 5 mm+ is a bold, chunky look.
Can I wear the chain in water?
Occasional contact with fresh water (showering, washing hands) is fine. Chlorinated pool water and salt water accelerate tarnishing and should be avoided. Remove your chain before swimming.
How do I clean my chain?
For light cleaning, wipe with a soft, dry cloth. For tarnish, use a dedicated silver polishing cloth — the chemical treatment in the cloth removes sulphide layer without scratching.
For a deeper clean, mix a few drops of mild dish soap in warm water, soak for a couple of minutes, then rinse and dry thoroughly. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, which can stress the links.
